(Hebrew Achimoth', אֲחַימוֹת , Brother Of Death, i e. perh. Destructive; Sept. Ἀχιμώθ ), a person named with Amasai as sons of Elkanah, a Levite ( 1 Chronicles 6:25). From 1 Chronicles 6:35, however, it would appear that he was rather the grandson of this Elkanah (through Amasai), and the father of the other Elkanah of 1 Chronicles 6:26. He is there called MAHATH (See Mahath) (q.v.).

a - hı̄´moth ( אחימות , 'aḥı̄mōth , "brother of death," or, "my brother is death"): A descendant of Kohath the son of Levi ( 1 Chronicles 6:25 ); ancestor of Elkanah the father of Samuel. The name Mahath holds a similar place in the list that follows ( 1 Chronicles 6:35 ).
