Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible [1]
Addan ( 1Es 5:36 ). Some of the inhabitants of this place returned with Zerubbabel, but were unable to prove their true Isr. descent by showing to what clan or family they belonged ( Ezra 2:59 ). The name does not appear in the later lists in Ezra 10:1-44 , Nehemiah 10:1-39 . In Nehemiah 7:61 it appears as Addon .

Ad'dan. (Strong or Stony). One of the places from which some of the captivity returned with Zerubbabel to Judea who could not show their pedigree as Israelites. Ezra 2:59. Called Addon Nehemiah 7:61.
Morrish Bible Dictionary [3]
One of the places from which certain persons returned to the land who "could not show their father's house and their seed, whether they were of Israel." Ezra 2:59 . In the parallel passage in Nehemiah 7:61 , it is ADDON.
Fausset's Bible Dictionary [4]
A place from which some of the Jewish captives returned with Zerubbabel to Judaea: these "could not show their father's house, nor their seed (pedigree) whether they were of Israel" ( Ezra 2:59). ADDON, or AALAR.

ad´an ( אדּן , 'addān ; in Neh אדּון , 'addōn ; connected in some way with the name of the god Addu): A name mentioned in the list of the returning exiles ( Ezra 2:59 , duplicated in Nehemiah 7:61 ). It is one of several names of Babylonian localities from which came men who were unable to declare their genealogy as Israelites.
