(1) The altered form of Jehoiachin (Additions to Esther 11:4; Baruch 1:3,9; Matthew 1:11 , Matthew 1:12 ). The last but one of the kings of Judah.
(2) The son of Zeelus (1 Esdras 8:92), called "Shecaniah" in Ezra 10:2 .

( Ι᾿Εχονίας ), a Graecized form of two Hebrew names occurring in the Apocrypha and N.T.
1. In Esther 11:4; Baruch 1:3; Baruch 1:9; Matthew 1:11-12, for king JEHOIAKIN (See Jehoiakin) (q.v.).
2. In 1 Esdras 8:92 for SHECHANIAH (See Shechaniah) (q.v.), who encouraged Ezra in the matter of divorcing the Gentile wives ( Ezra 10:2).
