<p> a Protestant theologian and scholar of Germany, son of Johann Joachim, was born at Erfurt, July 8, 1793. He was from 1818 to 1825 pastor of the [[Protestants]] of Lisbon; travelled in [[Portugal]] and Spain, and went to [[Naples]] in 1827 as chaplain of the Prussian ambassador; and returned to [[Berlin]] in 1835, in order to assume the pastoral charge of the parish of St. Paul. He died at Berlin, Feb. 6, 1874.
