International Standard Bible Encyclopedia [7]

jē̇ - mū´el ( ימוּאל , yemū'ēl , meaning unknown): A "son" of Simeon ( Genesis 46:10; Exodus 6:15 ) = "Nemuel" in Numbers 26:12; 1 Chronicles 4:24 .

The Syriac version has "Jemuel" in the 4 passages, but Gray ( Hpn , 307, note 6) thinks "Jemuel" is more probably a correction in Gen than "Nemuel" in Numbers.

Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature [8]

(Heb. Yenmuë l', יְמוּאֵל, day-light of God, Sept. Ι᾿εμουήλ, Vulg. Jamuel), the first named of the sons of Simeon (Genesis 46:10; Exodus 6:15); elsewhere (Numbers 26:12) called NEMUEL (נְמוּאֵל, Nemuë l'; Sept. Ναμουήλ, Vulg. Namuel), apparently by an error of copyists, and his descendants NEMUELITES (Hebrew Nemuë li, נְמוּאֵלַי, Sept. Ναμουηλί, Vulg. Namuelitoe, Numbers 26:12). B.C. 1856.
