(Heb. id. עַיר שֶׁמֶשׁ , in pause שׁ מֶשׁ עַיר, city of the sun; Sept. πόλις Σάμες, Vulg. Hirsemes, id est civitas solis), a town on the border of Dan, mentioned between Eshtaol and Shaalabbin (Joshua 19:41); probably the same as the BETH-SHEMIESH (See Beth-Shemiesh) (q.v.) of Joshua 15:10.
