BRAVERY . In Isaiah 3:18 ‘the bravery of their tinkling ornaments,’ bravery means splendour, ostentation. The word is connected with ‘brag.’

BRA'VERY, n. Courage heroism undaunted spirit intrepidity gallantry fearlessness of danger often united with generosity or dignity of mind which despises meanness and cruelty, and disdains to take advantage of a vanquished enemy.

brāv´ẽr -i : תּפארה , tiph'ārāh or תּפארת , 'tı̄ph'ereth = "beauty," "glory," "honor" and "majesty," hence, "splendor of bravery." "The bravery of their tinkling ornaments" (Isaiah 3:18 the King James Version), "the beauty of their anklets" (American Standard Revised Version). Compare bravado , bravurạ .

a term used in the Auth. Vers. only in its early sense offinery for the Heb. תַּפְאֶרֶת, tipe'reth, female ornament, Isaiah 3:18. So in the Apocrypha (Judith 10:4) " decked herself bravely" stands for gayly, as a rendering of ἐκαλλωπίσατο, presented a fine appearance.
