Shemuel [1]

shḗ - mū´el , shem´ū́ - el ( שׁמוּאל , shemū'ēl , "name of God" (?) ( 1 Chronicles 6:33 (18)); the Revised Version (British and American) Samuel, the prophet (see Samuel ); compare Gray, HPN , 200, note 3):

(1) The Simeonite appointed to assist in the division of the land ( Numbers 34:20 ). The Massoretic Text should be emended to שׁלמיאל , shelumı̄'ēl , to correspond with the form found in Numbers 1:6; Numbers 2:12; Numbers 7:36 , Numbers 7:41; Numbers 10:19 . Septuagint has uniformly Σαλαμιήλ , Salamiḗl .

(2) Grandson of Issachar ( 1 Chronicles 7:2 ) (Codex Vaticanus Ἰσαμουήλ , Isamouḗl  ; Codex Alexandrinus and Lucian, Σαμουήλ , Samouḗl ).
