In 1791 he was appointed prebendary of Durham, and in 1814 was made rector of Howick and vicar of North, Allerton, in connection with which he also held the chapelries of [[Brompton]] and Dighton. He died Jan. 30, 1826. Dr. Bowyer published A [[Sermon]] preached before the [[Delivery]] of the [[Colors]] to the [[Durham]] Volunteer Infantry (1803), and Comparative View of the Two New Systems of [[Education]] for the [[Infant]] Poor (1811, 8vo), in a charge delivered to the clergy of Durham.
