John Bachman [1]
an American minister and naturalist, was born in Dutchess County, N. Y., Feb. 4, 1790. He was licensed to preach in 1813, and became pastor of the German Lutheran Church in Charleston, S.C., in 1815. He died Feb. 25,1874. He was a collaborator of Audubon in his great work on American ornithology, and the principal author of The Quadrupeds of North America.
