<p> a Congregational minister, son of Dr. [[Shubael]] Hammond, was born at Union, Connecticut, June 15, 1813. He studied at Monson Academy, and graduated from Yale [[College]] in 1839; entered [[Andover]] Theological Seminary, and from 1842 to 1844 attended Yale [[Divinity]] School. In the meanwhile (1839-41), he was principal of the Monson Academy, and afterwards again occupied that position (1844-1859). From this time till 1863 he was connected with the Lawrence Academy, at Groton, and then was a third time chosen principal of the Monson Academy, a position which he retained until his death, November 7, 1878. He was ordained an evangelist, October 5, 1855, at Tolland, Connecticut. He was the author of many educational articles, and published several pamphlets. See Cong. Yearbook, 1879; page 43. </p>
