Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible [1]

Helez. 1. One of David’s thirty heroes (  2 Samuel 23:26 ). He is described as ‘the Paltite ,’ i.e. a native of Beth-pelet in the Negeb of Judah (cf.   Joshua 15:27 ,   Nehemiah 11:26 ). But in the two parallel lists (  1 Chronicles 11:27;   1 Chronicles 27:10 ) both the Hebrew text and the Lxx [Note: Septuagint.] read ‘the Pelonite .’ The former reading is further inconsistent with   1 Chronicles 27:10 , where Helez is expressly designated as ‘of the children of Ephraim.’ He was in command of the military guard appointed for the seventh monthly course of the Temple service.
