<p> a Roman [[Catholic]] theologian of Germany, was born in 1823 at Bockum, near Crefeld. In 1845 he was made priest and chaplain at Erkelenz; in 1847 he was appointed cathedral vicar and secretary to the archbishop Geissel at Cologne, and in 1848 professor at the clerical seminary there. In 1854 he joined the [[Congregation]] of the [[Holy]] [[Redeemer]] at Altotting, whose leader he became. He died Feb. 27, 1870, at Vilsbiburg, in Lower Bavaria, as rector of the Redemptorists.
