A son of Kohath (  Exodus 6:18;   Exodus 6:22 ,   Leviticus 10:4 ,   Numbers 3:19;   Numbers 3:30 , 1Ch 6:2;   1 Chronicles 6:18;   1 Chronicles 15:10;   1 Chronicles 23:12;   1 Chronicles 23:20;   1 Chronicles 24:24 ); gentilic Uzzielites (  Numbers 3:27 ,   1 Chronicles 26:23 ). 2 . 1. Kohath's fourth son ( Exodus 6:18;  Exodus 6:22;  1 Chronicles 6:2;  1 Chronicles 6:18). Head of one of the four great Kohathite families, UZZIELITES ( Numbers 3:27;  1 Chronicles 26:23).

2. Son of Ishi, of Simeon; one of the four captains who led their 500 brethren to Mount Seir, of which they dispossessed the Amalekites ( 1 Chronicles 4:42-43).  1 Chronicles 4:3. A Benjamite, of Bela's sons ( 1 Chronicles 7:7).

4. A musician, of Heman's sons ( 1 Chronicles 25:4; Azareel, i.e. helped of God, in ver. 18).

5. A Levite, of Jeduthun's sons; under Hezekiah took part in cleansing the temple from its pollution under Ahaz ( 2 Chronicles 29:14;  2 Chronicles 29:19).

6. Son of Harhaiah, a priest who repaired the wall ( Nehemiah 3:8): "of the goldsmiths," i.e. those priests whose hereditary office it was to make or repair the sacred vessels.

Uzzi'a. (My Strength Is God).

1. Fourth son of Kohath, father of Mishael, Eizaphan or Elizaphan and Zithri, and uncle to Aaron.  Exodus 6:18;  Exodus 6:22;  Leviticus 10:4. (B.C. before 1491).

2. A Simeonite captain, son of Ishi, in the days of Hezekiah.  1 Chronicles 4:42.

3. Head of a Benjamite house, of the sons of Bela.  1 Chronicles 7:7. (B.C. 1706).

4. A musician, of the sons of Heman in David's reign.  1 Chronicles 25:4.

5. A Levite, of the sons of Jeduthun, in the days of Hezekiah.  2 Chronicles 29:14;  2 Chronicles 29:18. (B.C. 726).

6. Son of Harhaiah, probably a priest in the days of Nehemiah, who took part in repairing the wall.  Nehemiah 3:8. (B.C. 446). He is described as "of the goldsmiths," that is, of those priests whose hereditary office it was to repair or make the sacred vessels.

    [some Uzziel] (Heb. Uzziel', עֻזַּיאֵל , My Strength is God, or perh. simply Strength Of God Uzziah [q.v.]; Sept. Ο᾿Ζιήλ or Ο᾿Ζειήλ , with some v.r.; Vulg. Oziel ) , the name of six Hebrews.

    1. Third named of the five sons of Bela son of Benjamin, heads of valiant families ( 1 Chronicles 7:7). B.C. post 1874.

    2. Last named of the four sons of Kohath ( Exodus 6:18;  1 Chronicles 6:2), also father of four sons ( Exodus 5:22;  1 Chronicles 23:12;  1 Chronicles 23:20;  1 Chronicles 24:24), and uncle of Aaron ( Leviticus 10:4).B.C. ante 1658. His descendants were called after him ( Numbers 3:19;  Numbers 3:27;  1 Chronicles 26:23), Elizaphan being their chief in Moses time ( Numbers 3:30), and Amminadab in David's ( 1 Chronicles 15:10).

    3. Third named of the fourteen "sons" of Heman appointed by David as Levitical musicians ( 1 Chronicles 25:4); the same with AZAREEL (See Azareel) (q.v.) the head of the eleventh band of orchestral performers ( 1 Chronicles 25:18).

    4. Second named of the two sons of Jeduthun among the Levites, who, in the days of king Hezekiah, took an active part in cleansing and sanctifying the Temple after all the pollutions introduced by Ahaz ( 2 Chronicles 29:14). B.C.726.

    5. Last named of the four "sons" of Ishi, Simeonitish chieftains who, after the successful expedition of the tribe to the valley, of Gedor, went at the head of five hundred men, in the days of Hezekiah, to Mount Seir, and smote the remnant of the Amalekites who had survived the previous slaughter of Saul and David, and: took possession of their country, and dwelt there "unto this day" (1 Chronicles 14:42). B.C. cir. 712. 6. A "son of Hashaiah, of the goldsmiths," who repaired part of the walls of Jerusalem after the Captivity ( Nehemiah 3:8). B.C. 446.

    (1) A "son" of Kohath ( Exodus 6:18 ,  Exodus 6:22;  Leviticus 10:4;  Numbers 3:19 ,  Numbers 3:30;  1 Chronicles 6:2 ,  1 Chronicles 6:18 (Hebrew 5:28; 6:3);   1 Chronicles 15:10;  1 Chronicles 23:12 ,  1 Chronicles 23:20;  1 Chronicles 24:24 ), called in  Leviticus 10:4 "uncle of Aaron." The family is called Uzzielites ( העזּיאלי , hā‛uzzı̄'ēlı̄ (collectively)) in  Numbers 3:27;  1 Chronicles 26:23 .
