Whence Joab recalled Abner to murder him at Hebron ( 2 Samuel 3:16;  2 Samuel 3:26). On the northern road from Hebron by which Abner would naturally return through Bahurim to Mahanaim. Αin Sara , a "spring and reservoir" on the western side of the ancient northern road, one mile out of Hebron, may represent Sirah. Sirah and Sara mean alike "withdrawn," referring to the fact that the spring is withdrawn. from the high road at the end of a little alley with dry stone walls, under a stone arch (Palestine Exploration Quarerly Statement, July, 1878, P. 121) .

SIRAH, THE WELL OF . The place at which Joab’s messengers overtook Abner (  2 Samuel 3:26 ). It lay on the road from Hebron to Jerusalem, and is now probably ‘Ain Sârah , near Hebron.
