<p> Allen, [[William]] (1), </p> <p> a [[Christian]] martyr, was a laboring man, and lived at Somerton, England. He was burned at Walsingham in September, 1553, because he would not adhere to the rules and regulations of the Romish Church. See Fox, Acts and Monuments, 7, 381. </p>
<p> Allen, [[William]] (2), </p> <p> a [[Baptist]] minister, was born in [[Maine]] about the year 1780. He received a license to preach from the Church in Columbia, and not long after received a call from the First Church in Jefferson, of which he was ordained pastor in 1809. During the long period of twenty-seven years he was the devoted and faithful minister of this church, his pastorate closing with his death in 1836.
