==References == | <p> This version is of very recent date. There are also [[Iroquois]] Indians in the provinces of [[Quebec]] and [[Ontario]] who do not understand the [[Scriptures]] in [[Mohawk]] published by the British and Foreign Bible Society. For the benefit of these Indians, the Four [[Gospels]] were published in 1880 at Montreal. The translation was made by chief [[Joseph]] Oncsakeural, revised by Jean Dion and the [[Reverend]] T. Laforte. Chief Joseph had all qualifications for the translation, since, in 1865, under the direction of the Roman [[Catholic]] missionaries at Oka, and with the approval of the Roman Catholic bishop of Montreal, he prepared a translation into Iroquois of the Gospels and [[Epistles]] used in the Missal.
