<p> a Congregational minister, was born at Conydon, N.H., October 27, 1795. He was educated at Kimball Union Academy, and was for some years a teacher; studied theology with [[Reverend]] [[Walter]] Chapin of Woodstock, Vt.; was ordained at Concord, March 5, 1823, and remained pastor there until 1830. During this time he established and taught the first normal school in the country; afterwards became principal of the Teacher's Seminary at Andover, Massachusetts, for six years; then took charge of [[Plymouth]] Academy, N.H. (1836-39); was pastor at Craftsbury, Vermont, fourteen years; at Browington twelve years, and thereafter, with the exception of two years, when he was acting pastor in Granby, remained without charge until his death, June 24, 1877. He was moderator of the General Convention of [[Vermont]] in 1859. He published, The Child's Assistant to a [[Knowledge]] of the [[Geography]] and History of Vermont (1827; revised ed. 1868): — Lectures on School Keeping (1829): — Lectures to [[Female]] School Teachers.
