<p> a German jurist, was born at Bruck, near Wittenberg, in 1484. He studied at [[Wittenberg]] and Frankfort. In 1520 he was appointed chancellor by the elector Frederick. In this position he rendered great service to the [[Reformation]] and the development of the [[Evangelical]] Church, especially at the diet of [[Augsburg]] in 1530. He died at Jena, February 15, 1557.
