Principal port of entry of Japan, 18 m. SW. of Tokyo ( q. v .), situated in a spacious bay, the centre of trade with the West and the head-quarters of foreign trade generally; foreigners are numerous, and the exports include silk, tea, cotton, flax, tobacco, &c.
