Shalmanezer [1]

King of Assyria, whose name would, most probably never have reached the present day, but from his connection with Scripture history. (See  2 Kings 17:1-41) If the name be com pounded of Shalem, peace,—and Azar, to fasten; the meaning of it is easily put together.
