His mother, Jane Cope, was a minister for more than fifty years, and died March 28, 1834, aged seventy-three years. When thirty-nine years old Samuel became an elder, and in 1835 was duly acknowledged as a minister. He visited several yearly meetings in the United States. He died November 11, 1871.
