Mount Moriah [1]

The mount on which the temple was built: once only is it thus designated.  2 Chronicles 3:1 . It was the place previously occupied by the threshing floor of Araunah. Its site is now very generally believed to be on the S.E. of Jerusalem, where there is a large plain, called the 'temple area,' formed by stones being built into the sides of the rock. It is also called the 'mosque enclosure,' because the mosque of Omar is built thereon.
