<p> a Presbyterian minister, was born in [[Ireland]] in 1728. He graduated at [[Nassau]] Hall in 1749, was licensed by the New [[Castle]] Presbytery, and sent to the valley of Virginia. He received a call from [[Timber]] [[Ridge]] and Providence, and was ordained and installed October 11, 1753. He resigned his charge after a pastorate of twenty-three years, and removed to Kentucky. John Brown [1]

a minister of the Scotch Church at Rotterdam, died in 1679. He published, Christ the Way, the Truth, and the Life (1677): Quakerism the Pathway to Paganism, in answer to R. Barclay's Apology (1678): An Explanation of the Epistle to the Romans (1679). In theology he was a Calvinist of the old school, and a man of learning and piety. See Allibone, Dict. of Brit. and Amer.
