Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible [1]

Jehozadak . Father of Joshua the high priest (  1 Chronicles 6:14-15 ,   Haggai 1:1;   Haggai 1:12;   Haggai 1:14;   Haggai 2:2;   Haggai 2:4 ,   Zechariah 6:11 ). The name is shortened to Jozadak in   Ezra 3:2;   Ezra 3:8;   Ezra 5:2;   Ezra 10:18 ,   Nehemiah 12:26 . It appears as Josedek in   Esther 5:5  Esther 5:5; 1Es 5:48; 1Es 5:56;   Esther 6:2  Esther 6:2;   Esther 9:19  Esther 9:19 , Sir 49:12 .

Fausset's Bible Dictionary [2]

Led captive to Babylon after Seraiah his father's execution at Riblab ( 1 Chronicles 6:14-15;  2 Kings 25:18;  2 Kings 25:21). Father of Jeshua the high priest, who with Zerubbabel led the returning Jews from Babylon ( Ezra 3:2;  Nehemiah 12:26). Zedekiah("righteous is Jehovah"); Jehozadak ("Jehovah is righteous".) It is suggestive that the names of the last king and of the representative of the high priesthood in the captivity both express that the suspension of the throne and of the priesthood was Jehovah's righteous judgment for Judah's sins; moreover Joshua or Jeshua, who restored the temple altar, expresses salvation; as the former Joshua led the hitherto homeless Israelites into Canaan their inheritance; and as Jesus, the Antitype, saves us from our sins and leads us into the heavenly rest. (See Joshua ; JESHUA.)

Smith's Bible Dictionary [3]

Jehoz'adak. (Jehovah Justifies). Usually called Jozadak or Josedech . He was the son of the high priest, Seraiah.  1 Chronicles 6:14-15. When his father was slain at Riblah, by order of Nebuchadnezzar,  2 Kings 25:18;  2 Kings 25:21, Jehozadak was led away captive to Babylon.  1 Chronicles 6:15. (B.C. 588). He himself never attained the high priesthood, but he was the father of Jeshua, the high priest, and of all his successors, till the pontificate of Alcimus.  Ezra 3:2;  Nehemiah 12:26, etc.

(Heb. Yehotsadak', יְהוֹצָדָק , Jehovah Justified; Sept. Ι᾿Ωσεδέκ ; Auth. Vers. "Josedech" in Haggai and Zechariah), also in the contracted form JOZADAK ( יוֹצָדָק , Yotsadak ', in Ezra and Nehemiah; Sept. Ι᾿Ωσεδἐκ ), the son of the high priest Seraiah at the time of the Babylonian captivity ( 1 Chronicles 6:14-15). Although he succeeded to the high priesthood after the slaughter of his father at Riblah ( 2 Kings 25:18-21), he had no opportunity of performing the functions of his office (Selden, De success. in Pont. in Opp. 2, 104). He was carried into captivity by Neduchadnezzar ( 1 Chronicles 6:15), and evidently died in exile, as, on the return from the captivity, his son Joshua was the first high priest who officiated ( Haggai 1:1;  Haggai 1:12;  Haggai 1:14;  Haggai 2:2;  Haggai 2:4;  Zechariah 6:11;  Ezra 3:2;  Ezra 3:8;  Ezra 5:2;  Ezra 10:18;  Nehemiah 12:26). B.C. 588. (See High Priest).
