James Willis Brown [1]

a Methodist Episcopal minister, son of Reverend Nathaniel Brown, was born in Fairview, Indiana, in 1850. He joined the Church in 1859; was converted at his father's family altar a few years later; received license to exhort in 1869, to preach in 1870; and in the same year entered the North Indiana Conference. In 1872 he entered the North-western University to complete his education, but had studied but a short time when failing health obliged him to return home. He continued to preach until prostrated with consumption, of which he died, September 21, 1873. Mr. Brown was. possessed of a clear and logical mind, studious in habit, earnest as a speaker, warm in his attachments, cheerful in disposition, and devoted to his calling.
