(Hebrews Kezib ´, כְּזַיב , false; Sept. Χασβί ), the birth-place of Shelah, Judah's youngest son by the daughter of Shuah ( Genesis 38:5); probably the same with CHOZEBA ( 1 Chronicles 4:22), and also the ACHZIB (See Achzib) (q.v.) of later times ( Joshua 15:44). Schwarz (Palest. p. 201) seems to confound it with the more northern city Achzib ( Joshua 19:29), in referring to a Talmudical notice of "the river of Chezib;" an error into which also Grotius was led from the reading ( Κεζίβ ) of the Sept. at Joshua 15:44. Jerome, however (Quaest. Hebr. in loc.), regards the name as an appellation merely (so Aquila, in Montfaucon's ed. of Origen's Hexapla, De la Rue's Orig. Opp. 5:287), indicating that this was the last of Bathshuah's sons.
