Immediately upon completing his educational course at Hamilton in 1847, he went as missionary to Assam, India, but after eleven years labor there, ill-health obliged him to return, and he settled with the Baptist Church at Mileatown, Pennsylvania, where he labored as pastor three years, and where, after serving the Christian Commission some time in the Army of the Potomac, he died February 13, 1864.
