In the earlier Epistles Paul addresses his churches both with authority in the name of Christ and with paternal solicitude ( 1 Corinthians 7:17 ; 1 Corinthians 11:23 ; 1 Corinthians 16:1, Galatians 4:12-20, 1 Thessalonians 4:2). In the Pastorals also the same notes rise clear in his urgent commands or appeals to Timothy and Titus ( 1 Timothy 1:18, 2 Timothy 4:1-2, Titus 1:5 ; Titus 1:13).
