a Congregational minister, was born Dec. 19, 1762, in Belchertown, Mass. He learned the shoemaker's trade, and entered the army in 1780; but after leaving it was converted and determined to preach. Having prepared for college, he entered Dartmouth, and graduated in 1790. He was ordained pastor at Haverhill, N.H., early in 1791, where he remained until 1799, when he was settled in Hopkinton, which place he left in 1818 and became pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Hebron, N.Y. From the latter place he went to Poultney, Vt., and remained five years as pastor of the Congregational Church, when he went to Hanover, Mass., but left in a short time, and was appointed city missionary in Boston. He died in Boylston, Mass., Aug. 29, 1849.
