an eminent Benedictine of St. Maur, was born about 1670, and died at Paris June 3, 1725. He enjoyed great reputation for learning, and was highly esteemed both as a man and a priest. His superiors entrusted him with the preparation of a new edition of St. Basil, and the result of his labors was one of the best ever produced at St. Maur: Scti. Patris nostri Basilii Opera (Paris, Coignard). The preface is a remarkable production. Garnier, howeverwas able to complete but two volumes.
