Richard William Dickinson [1]

a Presbyterian minister, was born in the city of New York, November 21, 1804. He graduated from Yale College in 1823; studied two years thereafter in the theological seminary at Princeton, N.J.; was licensed to preach by the Second Presbytery of New York, March 5, 1828; ordained an evangelist October 24 following; settled over the Presbyterian Church at Lancaster, Pennsylvania, October 18, 1829; resigned in 1833 on account of injured voice; spent the following winter in Florida, and the next season in foreign travel, and then resumed preaching on his return to New York city, where he supplied the pulpit of the Market Street Dutch Church from 1834 to 1835. In 1836 he became pastor of the Bowery Presbyterian Church, but resigned the April following; was installed over the Canal Street Presbyterian Church, October 22, 1839; resigned in 1844; in November, 1859, was invited to take charge of the Mount Washington Valley Church, and acted as its pastor for about thirteen years.
