Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible [1]

Perfumer. The Oriental liking for odoriferous substances has always rendered the function of the perfumer an important one. The materials used in Bible times were gums, resins, roots, barks, leaves; and these were variously combined according to the skill and fancy of the perfumer. In   Nehemiah 3:8 we read of a guild of perfumers. ‘ Perfumers ’ ought in every instance to be substituted for Av [Note: Authorized Version.] apothecaries as well as for confectionaries of   1 Samuel 8:13 .

Cf. art. Apothecary.

Webster's Dictionary [2]

(1): ( n.) One who, oe that which, perfumes.

(2): ( n.) One whose trade is to make or sell perfumes.

King James Dictionary [3]

Perfu'Mer, n. He or that which perfumes.

1. One whose trade is to see perfumes.
