Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible [1]

Blain . A blain is an inflammatory swelling on the body. In one of the plagues of Egypt the dust became a ‘boil breaking forth with blains upon man and upon beast’ (  Exodus 9:9-10 ). See Botch, Medicine, and cf. Wyclif’s tr. [Note: translate or translation.] of   Job 2:7 ‘He smot Iob with the werste stinkende bleyne fro the sole of the fot unto the nol.’ The word is still retained in the compound chilblain .

Webster's Dictionary [2]

(1): (n.) A bladder growing on the root of the tongue of a horse, against the windpipe, and stopping the breath.

(2): (n.) An inflammatory swelling or sore; a bulla, pustule, or blister.
