ish - bı̄ - bē´nob ( ישׁבּי בנב , yishbı̄ bhenōbh ): One of the four "born to the giant in Gath" who were slain by David and his men ( 2 Samuel 21:15-22 ). Ishbi-benob was slain by Abishai, and David's life saved by the act (2 Samuel 21:16 , 2 Samuel 21:17 ).

(Heb. Yishbi'-Beznob', יַשְׁבַּי בְנב my seat is at Nob, as in the margin, for which the text has, יַשְׁבּוֹ בְנב, Yishbo'-Benob', his seat is at Nob; Sept. Ι᾿εσβὶ ἀπὸ Νώβ, Vulg. Jeshi-benob), one of the Rephaim, a gigantic warrior who bore a spear of 300 shekels' weight, and came near slaying David in a personal rencounter, but was slain by Abishai (2 Samuel 21:16).
