Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible [1]

ADDUS. 1 . His ‘sons’ returned with Zerub. ( 1Es 5:34 ); omitted in the parallel lists in Ezra 2:1-70 , Nehemiah 7:2 . See Jaddus.

International Standard Bible Encyclopedia [2]

<translit> ad´us </translit> ( Ἀδδούς , <translit> Addoús </translit> ): The descendants of Addus (sons of Solomon's servants) returned with Zerubbabel to Jerusalem (1 Esdras 5:34). Omitted in Ezr 2 and Neh 7.

Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature [3]

a name twice occurring in the Apocrypha, but in both cases by interpolation.

1. ( Ἀδδούς , perhaps for Addon.) One of the "children of Solomon s servants," whose sons are said to have returned from Babylon ( 1 Esdras 5:34 ); but the genuine text ( Ezra 2:51 ) has no such name.

2. ( Ι᾿αδδού , as if for Jaddua.) A priest, after the captivity, who is said to have married a daughter of Berzelus, and hence assumed his name ( 1 Esdras 5:38 ); evidently a corruption for BARZILLAI (q.v.) of the genuine text ( Ezra 2:61 ).
