Exodus 9:31

Hastings' Dictionary of the Bible [3]

BOLLED . The boll of a plant is its seed-vessel or pod. Cf. Fitzherbert, ‘The bolles of flaxe … made drye with the son to get out the sedes.’ Thus Exodus 9:31 ‘the flax was bolled,’ means it had reached the seed stage. But the Heb. means only that it was in flower.

Morrish Bible Dictionary [4]

Swollen, podded, in pod. Exodus 9:31 .

International Standard Bible Encyclopedia [5]

bōld ( גּבעול , gı̄bh‛ōl , "the calyx of flowers"): Hence, "in bloom," and so rendered, in the Revised Version (British and American), of flowering flax ( Exodus 9:31 ).
