an eminent Calvinistic divine, was born August 12th, 1559, at Prestonbury, Gloucestershire, and educated at Corpus Christi College, Oxford. In 1608 he was chosen Margaret professor of divinity in the university. Dr. Benefield was well versed in the fathers and schoolmen, and was remarkable for strictness of life and sincerity. He died August 24, 1630.
