Davis, Henry (1), D.D.

a Congregational educator, was born at East Hampton, N.Y., in 1771. He graduated from Yale College in 1796; for seven years was tutor in Williams and Yale colleges; professor of Greek in Union College from 1805 to 1810; president of Middlebury College, Vermont, from 1810 to 1817; president of Hamilton College, Clinton, N.Y., from 1817 to 1833, and died there, March 7, 1852. His published works are his Inaugural Address, on assuming the presidency of Hamilton College, and a Sermon which he preached before the American Board of. Commissioners for Foreign Missions.
