ja´dā̇ - ı̄ , ja´dı̄ ( יהדּי , yahday , "Yah leads" (?); Baer reads יהדּי , yehday ): In 1 Chronicles 2:47 , where six sons of Jahdai are mentioned. "The name has been taken as that of another wife or concubine of Caleb; more probably Jahdai is a descendant of Caleb, whose name, in the original connection, has fallen from the text" (Curtis, Chronicles, 96).

(Heb. Yahday', יָהְדָּי , prob. grasper; Sept. Ι᾿αδαϊ v ), a descendant apparently of Caleb, of the family of Hezron; his sons' names are given, but, as his own parentage is not stated (1 Chronicles 2:47), it can only be conjectured that lie was the son of the preceding Gazez, the son (different from the brother) of Haran (1 Chronicles 2:46). B.C. prob. post 1612. Various other suggestions regarding the name have been made, as that Gazez, the name preceding, should be Jahdai (Houbigant, ad loc.); that Jahdai was a concubine of Caleb (Grunenberg quoted by Michaelis, Adnof. ad loc.), etc.; but these are mere groundless suppositions (see Burrington, 1, 216; Bertheau, Comment. ad loc.).
