(Heb. Lo-Rucha'mah, לאֹ רֻחָמָה not pitied, as it is explained in both contexts, Hosea 1:6, Sept. Οὐκ ἠλεη μένη, Vulg. Absque misericordia, and as it is rendered in the Auth.Vers., Hosea 2:23, "not obtained mercy"), the name divinely appointed for the first daughter of the prophet Hosea by the formerly dissolute Gomer, a type of Jehovah's temporary rejection of his people by the Babylonian captivity in consequence of their idolatry (Hosea 1:6; Hosea 2:23; comp. 2:1). B.C. cir. 725. (See Hosea).
