<p> a [[Protestant]] theologian of Germany, was born at Munich, November 5, 1817. In 1840 he commenced his academical career at Erlangen, and in 1843 was professor at Marburg, but resigned his professorship in 1850 on account of his conversion to the "Catholic [[Apostolic]] Church." He spent many years as a private tutor in South Germany, continuing all the time active and fertile in the production of theological works. In 1875 Thiersch retired to Basle, and died December 3, 1885.
