Fausset's Bible Dictionary [1]

A fortified town E. of Jordan, rebuilt by Gad ( Numbers 32:35). Rather write Atroth Shophan , i.e. "Ataroth of the burrow," to distinguish it from Ataroth in  Numbers 32:34.
