He then became minister of Liff and Benvie livings, which he held until his son succeeded him in the work of the ministry, to soon exchange, however, these fields of labor for the, scientific work in which he became so greatly celebrated. Dr. James Playfair was also principal of the United [[College]] of St. [[Salvador]] and St. Leonard, in the University of St. Andrew's. He died in 1819.
