<p> a distinguished English physician, who was born at Stepney in 1673, and after studying at the most eminent medical schools on the Continent, returned and settled in England, and became one of the most celebrated practitioners of his time, wrote a treatise on the diseases mentioned in Scripture, entitled Medicina Sacra, seu de morbis insignioribus qui in [[Biblis]] memorantur (Lond. 1749, 8vo; republished at Amsterdam, 1749, 8vo).
