a Unitarian divine, was born in Boston, July 23, 1793. He graduated from Harvard College in 1811, and the next year was appointed professor of rhetoric in his alma mater; in 1815 became pastor of the-First Church, Boston; resigned in 1850, but continued to reside there, chiefly thereafter engaged in literary labors, until his death, April 3, 1870.
