In 1847 he received holy orders, was in 1851 catechist, in 1852 professor at the gymnasium in Leitmeritz; in 1859 was made director of the gymnasium at Eger. and in 1869 canon of the chapter at Prague. In 187s he was transferred to the episcopal see of Leitmeritz, and died October 28, 1881. His main work is Kirchengeschichte Bohmens (Prague, 1864-78, 4 volumes, the last volume coming down to the year 1561). Besides, he published, Katholische Apologetik fuir gebildete Christen (3d ed. ibid. 1877): — Geschichte der Bischbofe und Erzbischofe von Prag (ibid. 1873): — Der heilige [[Johannes]] on Nepomuk (ibid. 1879).
