Eli [1]
( Ἠλί , for Hebrews אֵלַי [ Psalms 22:2], Eli', My God, as it is immediately rendered), an exclamation used by our Savior on the cross, in appeal to his heavenly Father ( Matthew 27:46). (See Agony). In the parallel passage ( Mark 15:34) it is written Ε᾿Λωϊ v, ELOI (See Eloi) (q.v.).
