He was ordained colleague with Mr. Peckham as pastor of the church at Newport, Oct. 13,1731. Here he labored usefully for seventeen years, and died Jan. 26, 1748. He collected many papers relating to the history of the [[Baptists]] in this country, which were used by Backus.
