At the age of sixteen he was converted, and for some time was a member of the Independent [[Church]] at Aldermanbury Postern. He was engaged in the business of bookselling till 1839, when he entered the service of the London City Mission, and was so successful in his work that he was appointed, in 1842, to the office of one of the .general superintendents. In 1845 he resigned his connection with the society, and was ordained as pastor of the Baptist Church meeting in [[Waterloo]] Road. Here he remained from 1845 to 1851, when he became pastor of the Church meeting in Church street, Blackfriars. He died January 12, 1856. See (Lond.) Baptist Hand-book, 1856, page 44. (J.C.S.) </p>
